Locksmith Roles

The common definition of a locksmith is “a person who makes and repairs locks” however the modern locksmith does far more than this. The locksmith of today often specialises in different roles including:

 

Domestic/General Locksmith: Normally shop or home based, providing services such as gaining entry to residential property, replacing locks, fitting new locks, advising on home security, key cutting, evictions, keyed alike and master key systems, supplying safes they may provide 24 hour services. Some also provide limited auto locksmith services such as gain entry and key cutting

 

Auto Locksmith: Provides gain entry services to vehicles, key cutting, key programming including re-programming new keys and taking old keys out of the engine management system.

 

Warrants Locksmith: Mainly provides services on behalf of Civil Enforcement Agents serving utility warrants and or commercial warrants normally involves a lot of non destructive entry may be dealing with conflictive situations.

 

Emergency Locksmith: Mainly providing services to insurance company/Maintenance facility customers and private customers locked out/out of hours 

 

Bench Locksmith: Mainly works in a shop or unit/workshop providing sales and services such as key cutting, repairing locks, keying alike or master keying locks.

 

Safe Engineer/ Technician: Mainly works for larger companies that supply and fit commercial safes and vaults, good safe technicians can supply services world-wide.

 

Commercial Locksmith: Mainly working for companies that supply services to commercial property such as large office blocks, hospitals, universities, may involve use of digital and electronic locks providing access control.

 

Maintenance Locksmith: May work for companies providing maintenance contracts to housing associations larger organisations usually involved in other work besides locksmithing.

Installer: May work for larger companies who install access control systems/door closer systems on new and older doors, installation of shutters and metal doors.

Security advisor: Advice on best security could be alarm systems, access control systems, master key systems, cctv systems.
